The server downtimes are nothing compared to what they used to be, at least on the EU realms. I frequently used this line in IRC back when server downtimes were a reality. :)

Only four hours... Vork sets his oven timer and prepares his slide projector. He has no idea what the next four hours have in store for him. Blackmailed for a wireless encryption key, betrayed by a guildmate masquerading as "Teats 4 Tots," the culminating irony as the timer dings, the server comes back online, and Vork no longer cares as he sobs in the shower... Server maintenance is bad news.
